Trees in Threes

So we have nine trees in our yard. Large trees. 3 cypress, 3 fruitless mulberries, and 3 pecan trees.

Trees are a rarity in the desert, so I can't help but feel proud of ours. So in honor of our arbor harbor, I've included the follow interesting info.

In urban areas (and especially the desert!) individual trees can make an important difference. Since paved surfaces soak in heat from sunlight far more than natural ground, tree-shaded neighborhoods may be 3 to 6 degrees cooler than un-shaded ones.

For your home, the U.S. EPA projects an overall 40 percent savings in energy expenses if you put the right trees in the right places. To maximize cost-savings, plant shade trees at the southern and western windows of your house to block sunlight and around your outdoor AC unit. Deciduous species that lose their leaves in the winter will allow sunlight to heat the house as well.
If people planted 100 million trees around their homes and businesses, American Forests has estimated that it would save $4 billion in energy costs. Simply having trees around your house can boosts its overall value up to 15 percent.

Yay for trees!

Fascinating. Luckily we have a bazillion trees around us. But it doesn't really change our flat rate utilities bill. Are you loving your new place or what? I wanna see some pictures.

so, have the kids tried to climb any of the trees? there's nothing better than a good tree climb--it also saves $$ on building a playhouse and creates an investment in one's imagination.
